Ski length advice please...

Hi,
Looking for some advise on ski length. I am 6ft 4" weighing around 200-205lbs . Currently skiing on Atomic Smoke Ti 177's. I spend pretty much all the time on groomed runs and like to ski reasonably hard. Looking for something snappy with shorter turns.
I hired last season's( or season before ) Head Supershape Magnum in 177 last week. Loved them at moderate - high speeds. Later in the day the viz was poor and ended up in lots of man made heavy snow / big moguls , I found the skis pretty hard work in these conditions. They are stiffer than my own skis so I need to get used to them but I am thinking about the 2014 Head Magnum in 170 cm.

Does the 2014 model perform much differently to the previous 1-2 models ?

Also , would I notice much difference going down to 170?

Thanks a lot...

I am assuming you are more of a beginner/intermediate skier if your considering a 170cm ski at your size?  Tell us what conditions you like to ski and honestly how good you are and someone here will offer you up some solid advice.  Based on what little you told us, I think a 170 ski is way to short for you.

170 is too short for 200 lbs.

I would say my level would be advanced but not expert. I like to ski on firm groomed runs but skiing a lot in Scotland ( as well as Europe ) the conditions vary. I have always opted for the longest ski available but reading some threads here there are mixed opinions on ski lengths with many experiencing good fun on slightly shorter skis.
I am interested to hear opinions on the 2014 head magnum.
I expected my skiing ability to be questioned by asking about a shorter ski...😜 seems to be standard on this forum!!
I just found the Head Magnum ( previous model ) hard work at slow speeds.. Perhaps it takes longer than 1 day to get used to a stiffer ski.
Thanks for your reply

I'm about 5'8", 150 pounds and my daily driver is 170cm, my fat ski is 174.  Last season I spent most of two days on a pair Nordica Fire Arrow EDT at 176cm and could handle them, even in the trees, but they were a bit more work than I wanted to do so I didn't buy them.  My hard snow skis are 160s, they are a low level SL race ski with an 11m TR.  What you might want to do is look for other skis that you could demo with a TR of 11-13m but that are longer than 170.  But, I do know a guy who was/is about your weight but only about 6' who only skied 155cm Atomic SL11 race skis.  He was pretty damn fast and really good at carving but that was all he could do.  So, if you only plan to ski on piste and really want 170s, you don't need our permission or anyone else's.
