Looking for EAST COAST mountain that is not JAMMED PACKED on the weekend. WILL TRAVEL - Page 3

Gore in North Creek, NY is never busy.

That is not entirely true about Gore, I've waited in long lines for that upper lift on busy weekends there.  It's less crowded than Southern Vt mega resorts, but hardly devoid of crowds on a good weekend.

Said it before, best skiing with the lowest hassle and least crowds in the East is Berkshire East in Charlemont, MA. It's 100% open and has more tree skiing than any Catskill destination.

The only times I have seen a line on the upper mountain at Gore is when the Straight Brook Quad was down and/or during xmas in a bad snow year. On most weekends and holidays, if Gore is mostly open, it eats crowds. The reason the mountain is rarely crowded is because there is less parking than mountain capacity. When cars are parked down the access road to the lowest lot, the lifts are basically ski on with the exception of the gondola. In the last 10 years Gore has had a little over 200K visits per season. Okemo has over 600K visits per season. I would think Stratton and Mt Snow are not that far behind Okemo's number. That is a huge difference.

Berkshire East is a great place but it is 200 miles and 3-1/2- 4 hours from NYC. The never crowded Plattekill (Catskills)- which is basically border to border for trees - is 150 miles and 2-1/2 - 3 hours from NYC. If I am driving close to 4 hours from NYC I am headed to Gore.

Driving is part of the hassle.

BUMP from the 2014-15 season.  Probably still applicable for folks who live in the NYC/NJ area.
