This is double-hearsay, but a friend told me that her friend skied Belleayre Sunday of Presidents weekend (after the snowstorm in the City), and said it was so crowded that there was no parking and no rentals. People who bought lift tickets in advance were annoyed to say the least. That was just a perfect storm of crazy crowded, with snow and the holiday weekend. I went to Fahnestock State Park (about 1.5 hours north of the City) to cross country ski that day, and it was insane. Have never seen those kinds of crowds. Was a wait of more than a half hour just to park, and a line for rentals that took nearly two hours. I had my own gear, but my sisters had to wait. Lift lines for downhill skiing are annoying but often par for the course. For Nordic, just no.
I was at Plattekill that Sunday. A women I rode the lift with was just starting to ski around noon because she had spent the morning at Bellaeyre trying to get rentals for the family to ski, but were told they were sold out. By the time they got to Plattekill they ended up just sending the kids to the tubing area and she went skiing without the kids as she had her own gear.
Plattekill was definitely the most crowded I'd ever seen it with lines topping two minutes at peak times. Trails were still empty and the lodge was a zoo. Waited longer for a beer than I did on 1/2 dozen lift lines.
