Interesting discussion for sure.
As we know weather is fickle, but I like the idea of maximizing chances for 4 things to occur. Minimal crowds, best chance for good snow, as inexpensive as possible which leads to the last one of maximum participation.
We got lucky with Utah this year as if we had been there a week earlier it would have sucked except maybe the last two days. I was in Jackson for 3 days 3rd week of Mar last season prior to heading to Big Sky and conditions were great. But if I had been there 3 days earlier it would have sucked, so you never know. And when I say sucked I'm referring to off piste.
I'm good with 1st week of Mar because as Phil mentioned in this or some other thread, the social aspect is also a very appealing part of these get togethers. If I was doing a trip to Jackson just for myself I would go earlier.
