Black Diamond JetForce Airbag packs

I think there has been a posit about this product, but HERE is a good write-up on the new technology from BlackDiamond and PIEPS:

The highlights:

Battery operated airbag- no cylinder, easy air travel, don;t have to hunt for a place to recharge the cylinder, can even practice deployment at home.

Battery operated fan gives an infinite supply or air, can run a larger airbag and be somewhat resistant to minor tears and punctures

Fan automatically deflates the bag after several minutes, giving a buried victim a potentially large air pocket

Expensive ($1,000+)

Does not inflate as fast as the cylinder-powered airbags.

Li-ion batteries are vulnerable to the cold and to aging.

Time will tell, but it seems to be a real evolution in the airbag technology.

I think it's a first step. I'd stay away from a new product in the first year, just so they can get things figured out, like faster inflation, smaller battery are a few examples... (see the few problems people were having with dynafit beast bindings)

But it's indeed a huge step forward with airbag packs... I'm not really crazy about the trigger handle, looks like it's harder to get a hold of it compared to T handles. The other thing I'd like to see is a portable bag module, this makes the overall price much more affordable if you prefer different bag sizes for different missions.

Like you said, time will tell... the product is still quite a few months away from release, so there are some refinements to be done!

It's definitely more user friendly than canister bags... also curious to see when arcteryx is gonna come up with their bag!
