Prickly Branches Out

So no White Grizzly catski rerun for Mr. Prickly this year (see http://www.epicski.com/t/102538/prickly-gives-up-his-stash and http://www.epicski.com/t/117877/prickly-checks-his-stash). They're all booked up, which shows I should have kept my mouth shut here on Epic. Anyway, based on rave reviews from trusted sources, Prickly and sidekick Jellyroll took a flier on a week at Selkirk Wilderness, just up the street from White Griz. Older, more established, bigger, more terrain. Selkirk doesn't have the hairball buzz White Grizzly has or the headbanging vibe you might find at nearby Retallack. But the terrain is there. Now if it had only snowed more…

But, first things first. This -- from warmup day at Whitewater -- kind of worried me, so Steve and I were pretty Bear Aware:

But the only Bear we met up with was one jhcooley. Cool name, cool guy. Great guide:

Then it was off to Meadow Creek for the main course, which looked like this:

And sometimes like this:

And occasionally like this:CREATOR: gd-jpeg v1.0 (using IJG JPEG v62), default quality

Some of it was steep:

And some of it was tight:

And sometimes I was just doing stupid out of control shit for the camera:
CREATOR: gd-jpeg v1.0 (using IJG JPEG v62), default quality

The guides were great at setting us up (that's Jason above, radioing me to go left or something to find better snow):

And there was even the odd money shot:
CREATOR: gd-jpeg v1.0 (using IJG JPEG v62), default quality

Conditions were less than epic:
CREATOR: gd-jpeg v1.0 (using IJG JPEG v62), default quality

But the guides were awesome and Steve and I had a good time:

Any questions?

Great trip report and good action photos.  It's tough to capture that during a day. Thanks for posting.

Thanks for the pictures. It looks like Selkirk did OK, even if it wasn't epic.

At Whitewater, you left out this one...

The bear warning left out two things:

1. After the "ski with a buddy" advice, it should say: "Make sure you can ski faster than your buddy."

2. It should also say that if you see the bear, you should photograph it and post it on the Whitewater web site... Oh, wait, someone already did that:

Anyway, I had fun skiing with you and Steve. Thanks.
