I totally agree.  We watched a few short track events in Salt Lake City.  It's just breathtaking - in every sense.

Thanks so much for the reports.  It looks like the trip of a lifetime.

I've been wallowing through the pictures.  I don't have  all that much to show that isn't wife and friends, or sports shots better done by the pros.  I'll throw in a few you might not see elsewhere.

Moscow in February is a bit grey, but the tourists are few.

It was easy to figure out where the US athletes were staying....it was the only one with no flags on the balconies.  Canadians are not as worried about terrorists:

Security was pretty thorough.  Our hotel was in the secure zone.  Here are seals they put on the cars when parked outside the secure zone:

Our waterfront room was well guarded, and Microsoft co founder Paul Allen parked his yacht in front of the dining room

Nice. Wow, certainly is different than summer.

Did you hear anything about what the Sochi venues might become in the future?

One stadium is going to be moved to another town  (I have no idea how)

The Iceberg, where the short track and figure skating took place is supposed to become a velodrome.

The rest will be a training/completion center.

I have no idea how they will keep all that stuff in the mountains going.  It is not going to be an easy job to bring in the skiers and the lift and lodging capacity is huge.  I expect to see some pretty good package deals there in the next few years.

Going to be keeping my eye on the alpine stuff for deals as the skiing terrain and snow looks amazing if you hit it right (and no crowds to boot). Probably have to be in the next 10 years before it falls into disrepair.
