Coming back on a dry slope after a long break

Hi all, was just curious what your thoughts would be on this...

I recently had a go on a dry slope having not skid for about 4 years, and I was horribly, horribly rusty. Back then I felt like a pretty decent skier. I had a solid and consistent technique on piste and could ski on my edges and at speed comfortably...

...Yet on this dry slope I found myself being unable to even keep my skis parallel! I've done a little research and as I expected a lot of others found adjusting to dry slopes a bit tough at first too, but to struggle quite as much as I did was quite a shock!

Is it more likely that this is a result of adjusting to an alien surface, or the 4-year break? Or a bit of both? I was hoping the muscle memory to just 'be there', like riding a bike. Maybe I had my hopes up too high!

thanks

Rhodri

Both.  Everyone has to do some re-learning first day back on the slopes after a long break.
