Courmayeur and Vallee Blanche

I cannot believe it but I'm basically being handed an opportunity to check a bucket list item off the list.  My company is sending me to Italy for work and I will tag on some days in the Alps to ski as well.

I'll only  have 2 ski days due to time limitations so I'm planning to make the most of the experience with what funds I have.  I'd like, if snow conditions allow, to ski the Vallee Blanche with a  guide.  The difficulty I'm having is finding a company that will allow me to add into a group as I don't have the funds to pay for my very own guide. I will stay in Pre-Saint-Didier and can be flexible to do the Valle Blanche on either February 22 or 23.  Does anyone here have an leads on a company or contact?

While I'm at it, anything else I should be aware of or looking into?  I'll take my boots and helmet but rent skis/poles.  And I did buy insurance.

It might be worth contacting the Courmayeur guide company (www.guidecourmayeur.com). They run group trips on the Vallee Blanche, so they might be able to squeeze you into a group.

You might not want to commit to a specific day ahead of time, because the weather could spoil your plans. Or, you might want to confirm that the guides have alternative iteneraries in case the weather rules out skiing above tree line.

Or you can PM me and I'll give you the name of a guide I know. No guarantee he's free, but worth a try. http://www.epicski.com/t/91736/courmayeur-mont-blanc-feb8

Wow, this sounds like a great opportunity.  Can't wait to hear about your trip.

Thanks everyone!  I pm'd Prickly and will contact the other company as well.  I've purchased a new camera for the experience so I promise to post a trip report.  I can be flexible regarding the day so hopefully something will work out.

I suspect that you might have a better chance hooking up with a group in Chamonix.

Try contacting the tourist office there.

Not the tourist office in Chmaonix but the guides bureaus

You should contact the Bureau des Guides in Chamonix and arrange it in advance. The Vallee Blanche is a bucket-list thing, but access is weather-dependent.  I once took the train all the way across France in the middle of the night only to be aced out because the Aiguille du Midi cable-car was closed due to high winds.  But you can have a great time sking Cham with or without the Vallee Blanche.

Well, I was not able to do the Vallee Blanche but had a wonderful time skiing Courmayeur and La Thuile/La Rosiere. I'll get a trip report up in the next few days with pictures. Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

Looking forward to info about La Thuile. I've heard it's a great place for going off-piste without the heards of powder hounds tracking everything out.
