New member, avid skier coming to Vail for the first time this weekend. I'm definitely skiing Vail on Saturday and would like to ski Vail or Arapahoe Basin on Friday.
A couple questions about transportation, ski buddies, and where to ski at vail after doing my own research follow:
Looking for a ride:
I'm flying to Denver and get in late Thurs, Jan 30. Is there a public bus that would leave early morning on Fri, Jan 31 and take me to either of these mountains? Also willing to throw down for gas if anyone is heading in from Denver early Friday morning - would love to get there early since it looks like a couple powder days.
Looking for a ski buddy:
I would love someone to ski with and would like to get there early for the storm. For those that live in the area, I'd love to meet up and ski with a local. I'm comfortable skiing pretty much all in-bounds terrain and don't mind hiking for turns (for a Jackson comparison, I'm fine dropping into Corbet's, but can't ski S&S couloir), but I do not have backcountry gear/training so will not be able to join anyone in East Vail Chutes, Mushroom Bowl, etc.
Where to ski at Vail:
It looks like there will be 10 to 20 inches of fresh snow at Vail. I've done some research online and in the forums, and it seems like Back Bowls (China Bowl, Windows, Sundown Bowl), Steep and Deep in BSB, and Northwoods and Pepi's would all be good places on a powder day. I like steep terrain and pillows/mini cliff drops, but probably won't do anything over 10-15 ft. I would love some feedback on these choices and for someone more familiar to let me know if other spots are better.
Also, if some places get wind pockets that could turn 10-20 in into 20-30, I'd love some recommednations.
I'll buy lunch and bring out some Heady Topper for any beer drinkers (or non) willing to show me around.
