I've skied on the East Coast all my life and have only encountered a few true powder days. As a powder day is such a rare occurrence, I never developed any deep snow skiing abilities. So, I have a few concerns as I am thinking of going west in the future:
I always ski on stiff racing skis for the advantage on ice. I demoed a pair of Volkl pearl twin tips and didn't even last one run on them. I was so used to racing skis that the transition to twin tips... just didn't work. So, would I be able to use the skis I have now (Volkl Tigershark Jr) in Western powder? If so, can anyone give me tips on how to ski in powder? If not, would it be easy to rent powder skis and acclimate myself to them?
