USA Olympic Uniforms for Sochi

We had this thread that went off the tracks some time ago. Burton uniforms for US Olympic team....

Now we have the uniforms that are made in the USA

American Olympic Uniforms Made In America,

From the article

Two years after catching all sorts of hell for making the U.S. Olympic team’s uniforms in China, Ralph Lauren designers say they have “learned a lot.” The uniforms for the opening ceremonies at the upcoming Sochi Winter Olympics, which open February 6, are made entirely in the United States, and with products from across the country thanks to partnerships with 40 other American companies. According to USA Today, the uniforms are made with “wool carted from Oregon, spun in Pennsylvania and North Carolina, and knit in California.”

I actually think these are pretty interesting and I'd wear one just for the heck of it.

Is there a law I don't know about that says U.S. Olympic team uniforms just have to be ugly?
post #3 of 13

So I don't get this...  Both Burton and Ralph Lauren were contracted in some sort of competition to make the ugliest jackets possible?  Do the athletes get to decide which version of "ugly" they want to wear?

I believe those Ralph Lauren suits are for the ceremonies and the Burton jackets are for the snowboard team to wear out on the mountain.  Ugly, yes I agree, but we all must admit that ugly is an extremely subjective and relative term when it comes to ski wear...

@KevinF I'd wear that.

But I really like the Dale of Norway commemorative sweaters that we sell in our shop better.

Women's version, complete with gold salmon ski in the zipper stop.

And the men's version, also with gold salmon skin in the zipper stop.

They should have just gone to your shop. That's X100 better than what they got.

@Trekchick, admitting that you'd wear the above is not helping you attract new clients for Dress This Mess.  :D

I have to say, Dale of Norway is incredible stuff.  I've never seen anything in their line that wasn't gorgeous.

The issue is, people were demanding USA Made for USA Olympic team.  Is it possible that USA fashion is crap?

I think that the Ralph Loren designed USA fashion stuff does not look good and is not a good representation of our current American culture and winter sports fashion. They should get some other designers besides Loren and burton. I really liked the north face stuff for the us freestyle team. Of course beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
