I think it's because of a couple of things. At 1/2, a little dullness has a very large effect, and at ,7/4 I'm using the edge to cut more where with a ski with a less acute edge angle I'd be skidding more dulling them faster in the same conditions.

So I'm calling bunk on the idea they dull faster. In my experience so far it seems to be the reverse.

Try night skiing at Alpental sometime. Edges required! 

 

Or a freeze after a Pineapple Express comes through!

 

Also we get a lot days with 6" of Pow on top of ice! You best have your 3 degree going on your POW ski!
