Vail Village or Lionshead?

We are planning to split our ski trip this year between Beaver Creek and Vail.  First four nights in Vail (th-mon) cause the young adults get bored with the nightlife in Beaver Creek Village. Then five nights in Beaver Creek at Park Hyatt (mon-sat).  We have 8ish in the group and need a luxury condo accommodation with ski valet.  In BC we stay at the Park Hyatt Residences. Looking at the Arrabelle in Lionshead and maybe the Ritz Carlton Residences (I think in Vail Village).  HELP!!!! Should we stay in Vail Village or Lionshead for four nights.  The financier of the group MUST be next to ski lifts, have ski valet service and be within walking distance to nightlife, restaurants and shops.

I prefer the village or Gold peak area.   More stuff to do and closer to the more challenging terrain.

I personally like starting on the gondola in the morning from Lionshead, after my coffee at the french pastry at the bottom; there are lots of shops, etc., everywhere - it is true there is more activity after skiing at the village it seems if that's what you want.  It's a fairly large resort area - all walkable, but also with frequent shuttle buses to get around to the different places.

What is the Gold Peak area?  We only have one in the group that may ski back bowls or something like that.  Is there an area in Vail that has jumps and things like in Beaver Creek?  I am not a really experienced skiier....as I am sure you can tell :cool

The Arrabelle is closer to snow (like an elevator ride) if that matters.

Lionshead will probably be best, just because there is skiing down to Lionshead that will be more fun for your party.   For folks heading to the back bowls, either would be fine.   Gold Peak is on the left of this map next to Vail Village, with Lionshead on the right.  Just look at the trails going down to each, and you'll see Lionshead is where you'll rather be skiing from:

We stayed in a nice 4BR unit at the West Wind in Lionshead last year during Super Bowl weekend, and didn't find that end of the resort to be too lively.  Sure, there was a decent breakfast place, and a few bars/restaurants, but nothing that would really excite a "young" person.  More action in Vail Village.

From what you can afford Lionshead meets your stated needs better.   It's more ritzy and the Village is, well more Villagey, but as far as dump you right at the lift Lionshead is better.  It's more the rich person's area these days imo.

I don't have any advice on your question but I would suggest that you reverse the trip to minimize the time at Vail on the weekend. Vail gets slammed on the weekends and you'd be better off at Beaver Creek those days.

On the other hand, if partying is as much of a priority as skiing, you totally want to be at Vail on the weekend. :)
