K2 Race Skis?

A few days ago I was tire kicking a set of race skis for my son. Anyway it seems the K2 no longer makes a racing ski, slalom, GS, etc. Am I missing something or is this the case?

That is the case, you are not missing anything.

No money in racing anymore. K2 is making a killing in the recreational market so stay where the $ are.

Tell that to Head. They are investing much into their racing program and it has been working quite well for them.

Yep it works great if your focus is the racers out there. That is not the market K2 is going after, so why spend the money. K2 is a US PNW based company that caters to a US market. Racing is dead in the US. Like it or not, I'm right. K2 is spending its money coming up with good skis for the masses. They have branched into the boot world, backcounty with the acquisition of BCA and freeride markets. I'm not going to debate the difference in demographics of skiers in the US vs Europe but the fact remains there are far more dollars in the recreational market vs going after the relatively small racing market. If you disagree, I'm all ears.
