Best Skiing During the month of May

Thread Starter

I am looking to schedule an international ski trip during the month of May (starting the second week of May). Unsure as to where has some of the best skiing during the month of May. I have never skied outside of North America and am looking for somewhere abroad to visit during this time such as Japan or anywhere in Europe.

Anyone know of some great places to ski during May?

Here are some areas in Europe you could ski in early May:

France: Chamonix (Valle Blanche)

Switzerland: Zermatt (Matterhorn glacier)

Austria: Hintertux glacier

Austria: Pitztal glacier

You should get decent snow cover in all of above places, but remember to check on conditions before you finally decide.

By May skiing is going to be limited here to just the high up slopes and glaciers.  in France there will be Tignes and 2 Alpes, in Austria Hintertux is the largest skiing glacier, in Switzerland theres Zermatt and Saas Fee.

Japans season normally finishes earlier than Europe I think - friends of mine who are there for the season are coming back here at the end of March.

But it seems a really long way to come for what might just be glacier skiing...  If you can come at another time of year next year I think it would make way more sense to wait.  Sorry to not be more enthusiastic for you!
