Would this be too long for me?

Hello all, I've been following the forum for a couple years, and finally here comes my first post.

Couple days back I bought a pair of 170cm Head x-shape stx(124/68/108) to practice my carving skills, and i'm 5'8 and 155lb. I'd consider myself an intermediate+ skier, but I've never ski'ed anything longer than 163cm. I suppose the 170cm length would be fine for me if it were a pair of all mountain 80mm+ width skis, but is it too long as a front side carver ? I really hope to find a 'perfect' pair to practice, but according to all the length charts, it seems that an ideal carver for me should be around 163cm.

I'm hoping to hear some suggestions from your kind folks here. Should I return it? If I were to keep it, what are some tips on skiing a longer pair ?

Thanks!

Yeah, 163 would be a better length for you in that ski.

Depending on how and where and what conditions you ski, you might want something with more stability at speed and better grip too.

If you generally are on something other than boiler plate and don't ski much over say 25 mph, then no worries.

If you keep it, it it may provide a bit more float and the extra length will compensate a bit for the lack of grip.

Ski it the same way as if it were 163.
