I just joined this great forum. Brand spankin' new to skiing. Let me introduce myself. My name is Todd and I'm 21 years old. I'm 6 feet tall. 170 lbs. I live in the Phoenix area. My girlfriend of 3 months is into skiing and wants me to join the fun. Her family is going to Snowbird in Utah for a few days and invited me along. I didn't want to look like a newb and rent equipment so I went ahead and purchased me some boots and ski's. Bought online from powder7 and I think I did pretty well. All in all, it cost me a bit north of $2k and I had to put it all on a card since I recently lost my job and I'm short on funds at the moment.
I bought me some Kastle MX88 in size 188 (I bought bigger so it would be more stable) with some Look pivot 14 bindings. I also bought me some Dalbello KR2 Pro ski boots with that moldable liner. The boots actually felt pretty good out of the box, but I went ahead and threw the liners into the oven for a few minutes to get them toasty and then put in the the boots and then buckled them up. They fit like a glove now (except for a little squeezing on my ankle. I'll try and push the boot out tomorrow. I'm very excited.
So, I have a few questions.
1. Can I mount the bindings myself or do I really have to have a shop do it? We're leaving on Sunday so I'd rather do it myself if possible. I started drilling into the ski, but then after I had drilled a half inch decided I should ask. I'm assuming I can get them mounted somewhere in Utah if I have to.
2. What kind of wax should I buy to wax the ski's?
3. Any tips for me to begin skiing so I don't look like a fool in front of my girlfriends family?
Thanks very much for the help,
