Any recommendations to ski both Timberline and Canaan Valley in WV?

Hi everyone,

I am planning a week-end getaway with a few friends, probably 8 total in the group. We are thinking about skiing both Canaan Valley and Timberline (we are traveling from DC). Any recommendations for places to stay? They are very close together, so anywhere in the general vicinity would be great. We are looking for a house to share, something nice but not outrageously expensive. Of course, it HAS to have a fireplace and a hot tub :))

 Thanks!

Since you are in DC, can't help but mention that Freestyle of Charlottesville is having free demos at Massanutten this weekend, Jan. 11-12.

I used Mountain Top Realty to line up a house for this gathering two years ago:  http://www.dcski.com/articles/1336

yes @rocdoc do ski both. I would recommend going to Canaan Valley on Saturday as it is generally less crowded but unless you are coming on a holiday weekend crowded in Canaan Valley WV is not all that.

Good tip from jamesj on realty.

Check Liftopia for good deals for Canaan Ski area.

Check http://skithevalley.com/ for combination tickets.

For rentals, check out:

From the DC area, a new extension of Corridor H has been completed a few months ago, so that is the quickest route from the DC area now. (The section on WV-93 can have low visibility, be snow-covered,  has some construction areas, but it is flat.) From the Beltway and I-66, (assuming no rush hour traffic and clear roads), the trip is 2.5 to 2.75 hours.
Check out the Epic Resort Pages for Timberline and Canaan Valley (links below). Don't forget about Whitegrass X-C Center.

One piece of advice for your trip, if anyone needs to rent equipment in your group, whatever you do, DO NOT rent from Timberline.  Their rental gear is ancient.
