Skis to use in Breck / Vail / Abasin next week

Obviously nobody knows what the snow gods have lined up next week, but I am a little overwhelmed at the nuances different skis offer. I presently ski a blizzard magnum 8 Ti in 176 in new England. I have grown to love the carving and the edge grip. People talk about skiing snow bumps- we usually just have round ice cubes that you skate over. And often when you are having fun shaping your turns down a hill, you hear that aweful sound of a ski scraping ice- like chalk screeching on a chalkboard.

Well, maybe not that bad. But I do not have the experience in enough varied snow to be able to imagine the differences between a blizzard bushwhacker, brama, a nordica hell and back or steadfast, a salmon enduro xt 850.

I enjoy skiing the trees at jay peak but it's not been especially noteworthy- a lot of hard pack. About 3 weeks ago we had a small dump and I headed up to sunapee.the powder was packed in about 2hours.by all the traffic. I demoed a soul 7 and was disappointed by the lack of control. I reaaly had to lay the edges over to get them to bite. The brahmas were better. Fisher motive was another good one.

So would my magnums suck in Breck? Will I be catching edges left and right? Do I need a dp112? Or maybe one outhouse surfboards that are 120 underfoot? Based on the snow that is there NOW, what skis would people suggest?

Take the Magnums.  If you get a dump, rent some wide boards.

Believe it or not our ancestors skied all conditions on a 63mm waisted 205 cm and still had a great time. Trust me I probably over do it with the ski quiver thing , but for perspective we may be a bit obsessive regarding gear.

I normally ski a 78 waist at copper and Breck. If it has snowed a lot recently I ski a 98. That being said, a98 is generally a better tool off piste than a 78. I'd go with the advise above -- ski the blizzards and if it's too much of a struggle rent.
