Grand Targhee - Lodging recommendations

I am planning to spend a few days in Grand Targhee this season. Does anybody have any lodging recommendations? Is it better to stay at the resort, or in town in Driggs? It's just my wife and I, so kids activities aren't needed.

Thanks in advance!

The Teton Teepee is the only place to stay near Grand Targee.  The Teepee is in Alta, so it doesn't have that big city thing going on like in Driggs.

Also, GT is pretty small and mostly has only one exposure and moderate vertical.  That's OK, but it means that if conditions are poor where you are standing, they are probably poor all over the mountain.

Rent a car so that you can get over to Jackson Hole if GT is poor.  JH has huge vertical and bowls with lots of different exposures, so there's always somewhere that skis well.

Thanks Bode.  We will be at JH a couple days before, then going to Big Sky for a couple days after.

Anyone else have thoughts on Driggs vs. Resort?

Hi, I have one related question. I'm staying 11 days in Jackson Hole. Does it make any sense to go 1 day to Grand Targee?

My friends and I (older adults) really liked The Pines Motel in Driggs last season.  Several good places to eat in town that were almost walking distance if not too cold.  The drive up to GT was pretty straightforward.

The resort has packages that include lift tickets.  I think there is even a cat option.  So probably worth investigating.  I would do it for 2-3 nights.

From what I've read and my one day at GT, yes.  There is a bus that includes a GT lift ticket.  Pick a day when there is decent visibility and you will have a good time.

+1 on spending a day (or 2, or 3) in Grand Targhee

It depends what you are looking for.  Targhee sometimes gets lots more snow than Jackson, but it has less pitch and variety.  If you need to ski chutes and steeps all the time, maybe stay at Jackson.  If you want some low angle pow or groomers, go to Targhee.  In 11 days, there will be some good days at Targhee.

I'm going to amend this recommendation.  I really like the Teepee, but I haven't been there in a long time.  It's a different experience than your typical Comfort Inn, and maybe not for everyone, but the food was great when I was there.  AFAIK it's still owned by the Melehes family.
