Intense Calf Pain

Thread Starter

Hi there,

I'm skiing in Atomic Medusa 90s, and am getting seriously sore calves. It seems to be largely from having the second foot buckle done up tight (the second from the toe) - when I ease the buckle, the pain eases - but then I feel like I have no control over my skis. I am quite strong and don't think this is a fitness issue, but am very reluctant to buy new boots. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

not certain why the second buckle from the toes would cause your calves to hurt----should make your feet hurt.

If your calves hurt---how are your quads (any quad burn?)

The Medusa is a 4 buckle boot----instead of tightening the top of the foot (second buckle from toe)----try tightening the second buckle from the top (ankle buckle)

Tighten it till it starts to hurt( (you may have to move the buckle ladder to a new hole)---then back off till it is just comfortable, but always ski it that tight.

Doing this will hold your heels in the back of the boot heel pocket-----tightening the top of the foot only puts it to sleep

my money is on a tight calf muscle/limited ROM at the ankle joint, by slackening the 2nd clip you are allowing the heel to raise up a bit and this releases the pain in the calf as it is no longer flexed past its point of comfort, there are a number of things that might help, good footbed, a heel raise, stretching the calf muscles but to be sure you need to have it all checked out

That was my first thought also.
