Interesting article today in the sports section of the NYT:

Several factors, but one key one that I have pointed to as being overall detrimental to this sport, as well as others:

“There’s this energy drink culture now, a high-level, high-risk culture, that’s being marketed and impacting the way people ski,” Robb Gaffney, a sports psychiatrist, said. “That’s what people see and that’s what people think skiing is, but really, that’s the highest level of skiers doing the highest level of tricks.”

Thoughts?  I know that the "energy drink culture" image of the sport appeals to some, but it turns plenty of others off, both in skiing and other sports, such as mountain biking.  They see those things and think " that isn't me", yet that is how the sport markets itself these days.
