Seems the user that replied to me no longer has a username? If this isn't a bug, shouldn't there be a more clean way to delete users?

The Greig guy? I can still pm him.

Weird, his username doesn't show up for me at all. Errors when replying to his PM.

I saw this earlier today with long-time member Brian Lindahl.  I will report the bug.

Might be a desktop vs mobile thing.

Not showing in Firefox on Desktop mode.

Finally, a benefit of using the mobile mode. If I switch to desktop mode the username is missing.

Sorry I left at 4:45 this morning and only got back about 20 minutes ago. Looonnnngg day. It is an issue that unfortunately Huddler can do very little about. The story goes that in the earlier days of the site we had an easy way to sign in and post using a Facebook account. Then Facebook changed some things and as a result it limits the access to the data that they originally provided. I have asked 'are you sure' about three times to Huddler's software engineers and they assure me the only way to get their user name to appear is for them to go to their profile and upgrade to an actual EpicSki account and not a no-longer-supported Facebook account. I have the steps on how to do that (it's pretty easy) if anyone needs them.

So, it's the fact that I have a Facebook account that allows me to see them?

No, that makes no sense, as I can't see them if I just flip to desktop mode.

Remember asking how we might use the "Merge" user function?  This is another example.

@tylrwnzl, if you look at the link in post 8 the user name is missing in Desktop mode and present in Mobile mode.

It would seem that Huddler's programming folks should be able to get the user name to appear in both modes since, clearly, the user name is accessible in the user database in one mode. Really, it's hard to see how Facebook plays into the explanation....the Facebook explanation may make some sense if the user name was not available in either mode which is not the case here.

I totally removed all cache and logins, in fact I just had to login to post, thereby fixing a problem with hearing video in another thread..

Anyway, my Facebook access has nothing to do with seeing the username in mobile mode.

Desktop mode

Note I have the picture in both modes, it's the name missing.

Interesting.  The post profile links to Brad Hall.  His "display username" field has his user-name in it., but the (registered) username field is blank, I would think Huddler could call the display username field to provide a link to the profile.  It could be that the mobile platform does indeed call on that data field.  While I'm no programmer, I would think this hole could be easily filled.

Making some general assumptions here, but it sure sounds like this could be solved by batch updating all the old Facebook accounts with activity in the last XX days?

Or atleast force these users to "upgrade" on login. No good reason to let them participate without a display name.

All my thoughts exactly and points I have raised with them, but Huddler seems unwilling to do any work on this one. I'll keep trying.

Someone had a problem PMing me today because of the missing username.

This problem is seems to be related to users that have a space in their name.

As a software engineer familiar with these types of applications, my guess is that the following happened:

Considering the database has the correct 'display name' but not for 'registered username', my guess is that not too long ago, one of those columns in the database didn't exist. The forum software and database was upgraded, and when it was done, the new database column was populated with a formula. That formula left the 'registered username' column blank for all those that had a space in their 'display name'.

If it makes it easier, you can change my username to just 'Lindahl'. There would likely be very little confusion as to who I am still.

I will try changing your user-name.  What is actually happening on your account is described earlier in this thread.  You created the thread via Facebook.  You have a "display username" on my Admin CP, but you don't have anything in the actual "username" field.   That may be solved when I change the display username....let's see what happens.

You can reach me at Tom@epicski.com if you have any difficulty logging in after the change.

EDIT:  Okay, I changed you display user name to Lindahl and saved that change.  That filled in the Username field that was previously blank. I then went back and re-edited so your full user name is visible Brian Lindahl, and saved that result.  Your username field updated and you should have no problems receiving a PM.  I'll send you one now.

Looks like that worked. I wasn't able to log in after you did that, but I did a password reset and everything seems to be working as normal again.

And we've got how many users in this situation? And how come it doesn't impact the mobile version of things?

I don't know, and I don't know. Huddler's been on vacation pretty much since the 20th since most people took a vacation day on Monday before Christmas so I'm just relighting the fire under this bug report. As you can imagine there is a lot of catching up for them to do though.

I just fixed another account for Shawn Ross.  What happens is these old accounts created from Facebook are no longer supported.  They have no user name and no email.

@tylrwnzl maybe you could post about this problem on our Facebook page.  Let users who suddenly find they cannot log-in know they can email us for a password reset, or they can contact us through Facebook messaging.  In the absence of a solution from Huddler, we are going to have to manually assist them.
