Steamboat adds new Snowcam!

I always criticize the boat for their horrific website so its only fair to acknowledge it when they do something right.  Now if they can only position the camera close enough to read the snow stake and the thermometer (btw, did they buy that at the Ace downtown?). I am sure its fine on a large monitor but now bueno on laptops and iPads

Suggestion in case anyone reads this from SB, you need to add an explanation of how often you clean away the snow and such so the viewer understands how it works.......

Web cams are getting better and better. Once you get tired of watching the feathery champagne powder pile up at Steamboat (who ever would?), check out these new "RoundShot" high-definition panorama cameras--Aspen's newest pride and joy--too, if you want a little wow! This is my new back yard. Be sure to explore the time-lapse feature, and the archives--especially on a day like today, when it's snowing so hard you can hardly see. The images are truly spectacular. It's almost like being here, only warmer.

Happy Holidays everyone!

Best regards,

Bob

We have a thread about that link from a month ago.  Pretty cool stuff.....

(and we had it featured on the home page last month)

Size is fine on my laptop for reading the totals but can't judge on smaller screens as I don't have an iAnything.  Pretty sure the plan was to clear it at the end of the ski day, so the snowstake cam will show overnight totals but I'll confirm.  Judging on the what the snowstake shows now versus my personal snow "audit" today, I think end of ski day is when it's cleared (about 5" at 8am this morning, and was dumping all day).  If it's cleared off in an hour or so, you'll know.

Hey tam, thanks as always.  on my 11" screen you have to enlarge the screen to clearly see the amount and the temperature. This should have been tested. It would have taken about 1 minute to see this. Also, as of 3:49pm MST, the snow has not been cleared so I am not sure how this will work.  Since they didn't show at least 10" in 24 hours, (the totals from yesterday was 6" this AM (now showing 4")  and they didn't report 10" this AM in 24, so either the report was again way off or they didn't clear it yesterday) . regardless, its a step in the right direction.  Its just part of the Steamboat charm  ;)

Shows up great on the 10" screen on my Surface in full HD glory  I could count the flakes except I can't count that high:drool and it must be cold but the thermometer is covered.. must just be one of those "it just works" Apple things

I may need to bookmark that - given the slow start here and that flight you posted about Finn.... :D

Yeah sorry, I have a 15" screen so probably looks bigger on mine.  Still not cleared at 5pm so not sure when it's done... was thinking we'd see it cleared when patrol sweeps after 4pm, but didn't happen.

Regardless, its a great new addition to the website as is the new and improved storm peak camera.
