Orthotics or fitted boot?

Thread Starter

I have foot problems and am in the process of getting orthotics. I also need new ski boots. Am I better off getting custom fitted boots or getting regular boots and wearing my orthotic insole in them?

odds are a show orthotic is make longer and thicker then a ski boot one.   Also, a shoe/walking orthotic is make for walking (toe strike, heel lift off, etc) and not the limited ROM that a ski boot uses.

So buy boots, and get a good ortotic made for them.

I'm going to disagree.  If you truly have foot problems that are reduced or eliminated with a prescription foot orthotic I would try that in your new boots before I'd use one made in the store.  Most store salespeople will be able to make a footbed but correcting medical issues often requires more skill that just molding your foot.
