Silver-Thurs 12/12

Steve, Jubil, Jeff and I skied Silver today.  They reported 7 inches and this was probably correct although skied like 2-4 as it had settled.  Chair 4 was pretty ugly, windblown sketchy snow. Chair 2 was pretty ok especially in AM. Trees were good if you were Early Season aware.  SOB had good snow with the usual early season carefulness.  Found a few patches of good powder mainly on gentle slopes but it was fun.  Very small crowd, Gondola guy said 140 people - YEA Northern iDAHO.  Good early season day we had a good time. Beer was good too.

Thanks for the heads up..been wondering!

Must of missed you up there somehow. SOB was probably the best skiing, though plenty of sharks lurking.

Silver still needs about 2-3 feet more..

Yeah.. they chose a silly spot for their new snow stake. It's on the lee side of Kellogg Peak behind the patrol shack.

Beyond there being no actual skiing terrain above/at this level, it gets a lot of snow blown in from the windward side:

Sounds like a marketing decision.

Sibhusky - so they can lie legally, actually sometimes they report less snow (wind effect) one day last year they were reporting 2 inches, went anyway and it was about 8.  Great day.  Keeps us guessing.

Mike.  Saw you on Northstar as I was on chair 2.

Yes South was better, found some really nice snow today on South.  Skied under chair 3 early and some good snow but had to slow down at bottom and pick was through to chair, worth it though.

Visibility was poor so stayed in the trees most of time and was pretty good for this early - still a lot of early season hazards to avoid.

Taking a couple days off; Sat to rest the legs and Sun to watch 49ers and rest the bode.

Fun day.

NOTE. for those of you wondering, the runs are in good shape (except to steep ones)  All the chair 2 groomed runs are good, even Tall Paul was good.  Most of the discussion I mention is off piste.

Hi Mike,   Yes if you are going to do South, Glades, Rendevous (sic), lower chair 3 and even parts of Northface, Northstar although easy to avoid.  I was last there on Mon and Wardner not open, we hiked traversed into lower Gold and was ok but Teledancer says upper Wardner will be core shots. Tweaked my R knee so resting up after todays steriod shot so be 5 days off for me.  Have a good one.

Thanks, Pete. You were pretty spot on! Wardner is not ready to be skied yet, took a peek from below Morningstar and found plenty of rock exposed.

In good news.. Tuesday is looking very promising for snow, followed by a possible larger storm on Friday.

(Model snowfall for 48hrs leading up to Tuesday 4pm)

Skied Lookout today (Wed), about 2-3 inches.  Off piste still very iffy, skied groomers with wife, lower Chair 2 still full of obstacles (rocks, stick ups, stumps) .  Let it snow !!

skied Silver Friday.  2 inches of creamy powder and skied pretty good - much better than I expected.  Skied Chair 4 Wardner, Gold-lower, sides of tamarack  and was pretty good compared to what we have had.   BUT  also skied SOB and core shot my Bonafides, worse core shot I have seen in 40 years, bent the edge.  Took to Ski Shack for fix, real ugly. Anyway really pretty decent day except for core shot.  Got crowded in Lodge about 1100 real good crowd especially on Tube runs and beginner hill.

Ouch @ the core shot! Though, I bet Ski Shack will get you back close to new. I'm still skiing my rock skis, but took no hits today.

Silver was nice today. Got a great line leftover on Wardner.

Weather is looking exciting for this week!

Glad you had a good day.  Looks like we may finally get some snow.  Gonna miss my Blizzards but Ski Shack said they'll get right on them.   Mike thought I would try some thing here on Epic at the Inland site.  A thread just for Silver and just for Lookoout with people posting how it is or was.  Might c ome in handy and maybe Scweitzer guys could do the same.
