What are the racers wearing on their faces?

I was watching the World Cup this weekend and it looks like some sort of tape. Is it just athletic tape or something special?

Thanks

I noticed that, clearly some kind of shield against the temps.

I saw a variety of protection. Mostly athletic or medical tape of one sort or another.

Me and a friend at a DH race at Ski Cooper. We had sub-zero temps and were going 60 mph so protection was essential.

duct tape on the right?

Yup, duct tape. With the proper amount of sunscreen underneath, it comes off easily. I think we used a bee's wax based screen before we taped up.

I saw kinesiotape yesterday...

Lately it's kinesio tape, since pretty much everyone's physio has it in bag. Otherwise normal athletic tape does the thing once it get's really cold.

Super heros! Perhaps this could be your new avatar. Form follows function and all that. I will put this trick in my bag. Thanks.

Kinesio tape: works better running & biking when used on calves.

You use what you brung. K-tape makes sense with its stretchiness. I prefer not to ski when this type of protection is required. I'm either getting softer or smarter. Maybe both.

Works better on legs

Here's a moldable, softshell/fleece alternative to the tape.  check out www.faceGlove.com

@maskman that is exactly what I need!  Do you know why the racers weren't rocking those?

faceGlove is a really new product and not many people know about it yet.  outerU Gear, Inc. has been getting solid grassroots attention around the White Mts. of New Hampshire with skiers, climbers, and mountaineers-- and faceGlove, made in NH, USA is Mt. Everest summit tested.

I have a friend who has been making and selling things like that for a few years.
