Skiing articles in Sports Illustrated

Came across these articles covering skiing in an archived Sports Illustrated magazine.  Thought it was cool, you may as well.  Article on new equipment starts at page 8, ski fashion article starts on page 72 (page #s are for the viewer, not those in the actual magazine).

Magazine viewer: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/edb/reader.html?magID=SI&issueDate=19611120&mode=reader_vault

Equipment article only (no pics): http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/topic/article/France/1900-01-01/2100-12-31/mdd/index.htm

I apologize if this is a repost.

Thanks for the nostalgia trip PaulD and welcome to EpicSki. You can find some cool old stuff in the Life Magazine archives too, see here for examples: http://www.epicski.com/t/94858/vintage-ski-action-photos-from-life-magazine

It is always so fascinating to peruse old magazines. They provide a snapshot of the current culture so long forgotten with the passage of time. Ads for guns and long extinct cars. The one for the Karmen Ghia suggests a level of sophistication that would fare well today.

I particularly like the image on pg 74 which shows smiling knicker-wearers. My dear uncle who was my skiing mentor wore them with splendid Norwegian socks. Two decades later, when I showed up at his house in a pair while on my way for a day of cross-country skiing, he remarked. "Nice pants. I used to wear those when I was poor, too." He was my favorite wise ass, too.

Sports Illustrated covered a much wider gamut of sports back then, both amateur & professional.  I really enjoyed the simplicity of the ads as well.
