I use Level brand Element style overglove mitts when it gets really cold. They're like a sleeping bag for your gloved hands. They do reduce grip somewhat, but they're light, pack into a pocket easily and are quite effective. They have a waterproof covering and a very small amount of insulation.

Tks KB, think they'd fit over mittens?

If you are going to put your gloved hands in mitts, then why not just skip the gloves and buy some good mitts?

I do have a very good pair of mitts, just don't do the job at -10.......

A pair of mitts that don't do the job at -10 F is not a very good pair of mitts.  Just Say'n.  Maybe they are worn out?

Because I can start out with the gloves and, if the hands get too cold, add the overgloves. The Levels are not bulky, so they're unobtrusive in a pocket.

They might, but as Ghost says, maybe you need better mitts.

Get some mitts with the zippered pocket to stuff a heat pack into. Let the heat packs warm up for 20 minutes first, then put them into the pocket. Keeps me warm for ~ 7 hours, and you don't have to fool with mitts over gloves.

Gonna take a good look at my mitts, not sure how worn out they are...

But assuming they are good mitts, and it's -20, would overgloves make any difference?

I wear thin gloves under mittens.

I slip the mittens off to adjust my boots, bindings, and other gear; to unscrew bottles, fire my 9mm at snowboarders sitting in the middle of the slope, snatch cellphones out of the hands of a-holes having load conversations on the lift, and so much more.

All those things are more difficult wearing mittens.

My mitts are in perfect condition, just +/- 35 days usage. Gordini's leather and down, etc.  My son Swany "toasty", newish as well.

BTW, any "thumb warmer", these seem to get colder faster than 4 other fingers??
