Big Sky's 40th anniversary season has now started.
Lifts currently open: Swift Current, Explorer, Challenger, Lone Peak Triple, Lone Peak Tram (sightseeing only).
A little more snow is needed...
Big Sky does not have a massive amount of snowmaking coverage. It is usually used for several of the blue runs on Andesite Mountain, such as Tippy's Tumble, Ambush, Hangman's and Elk Park Ridge. Recent temperatures have been conducive to snowmaking - to say the least :)
Thanks Martin. Maybe short on snow but looks like good coverage on some runs off Challenger. As we know, a little snow can go a long way when there are so few people there to ski it off :) . In 22 years of traveling to BS at all times of the season I've never had a bad trip. 13 days and counting for me.
Now it is set to stay clear, so conditions will probably firm up, but the overall cover is pretty good. Merry Christmas!
Since the dry, mild January 2014 ended, the weather here has been less settled, with regular snowfalls; last Saturday was probably the best powder day since Christmas Eve.
Unfortunately, we were mainly involved with racing for most of the day, but my daughter and I got to have some fun turns in the trees at the end of the day:
