editing in private messages
Probably not. PM's are akin to emails not forum posts. Once you send it, it's there and delivered. As for deleting, there is no way to permanently delete the message. I don't see them adding that functionality either because I can't think of any good reason someone needs to permanently delete a PM. Even if you were to remove it from both your inbox and the trash folder there is still a record of it out there somewhere, removing it from the trash bin is purely aesthetic.
It's apples to oranges. It's not a question of who or how many people read it, it's a matter of the form of communication. A PM is like an email or a letter if you want to use an analog comparison. A forum on the other hand is like a community bulletin board. You can't retrieve and change an email once it's sent, you can however edit something you have pinned up on a community board.
If a PM was like an email, I could delete it. Sure I can't delete the copy in the other guy's inbox, but I could delete it from my Outbox and trash. So, the individual message is either live as a single message on both accounts, so should be editable for some period of time, or it isn't. If it's not live then it should be deletable.
Nothing on the internet is deletable. It is always out there somewhere. You can delete it, it's in the trash. What possible need is there for further removal of a message than the trash folder?
