Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!
I'm looking to get a pair of AT boots and I'm considering the Scarpa Maestrale RS. While it would be nice to head to a store to try on boots, I don't live in an area conducive to this... with the black Friday & cyber Monday sales coming up I may pull the trigger and order a few pairs of different sizes from the online retailers that offer a good return policy.
I was wondering what the size comparison will be between my current 12/13 Dalbello Kr 2 Fusion ID boots and the Scarpa Maestrale RS? They will both have the Intuition Liners.
Are they similar in size? Do most folks go up 0.5 a size when buying AT boots?
I have a size 28.5 Dalbello with a street-size 12 - 12.5 foot. I know the Kr 2 is 98 mm wide and the Maestrale RS is 101 mm wide.
Should I buy and try a 28.5 and 29 Maestrale RS? Or skip the 28.5 and go right to 29 and 29.5?
As far as volume goes the 98 mm and 101 mm could be negated by having thicker socks for AT. Honestly, I don't think that I'll wear any different sock thickness than my current sock-of-choice...the Darn Tough ultralight. But may consider something with more padding and cushion like the Darn Tough Function 5 Padded Over-the-Calf Cushion.
I've seen the Scarpa sizing chart... http://www.scarpa.com/DownloadPdf?dataResourceId=SIZE_CHART and it says "Highlighted (or not) sizes share the same shell size; the liners are lasted for each 1/2 size. Some skiers may want to downsize up to 1 full Mondo size, depending upon personal preference."
Thanks for the advice.
