This is why I have the Whitefish and Montana advanced search links set up on my toolbar. It is really just an even SMALLER "forum".

It significantly impacts my participation in the winter. I practically am offline for four months.

Although I like that Activity Feed shows how many unread posts there are in unread threads, there isn't the option to Mark Forums Read.  I use that both to mark everything as "read" or to mark just a particular forum for which I have less interest.

Keep in mind that the software used by EpicSki is also used by several by other online communities.  Every software application ends up with idiosyncrasies.  Doesn't mean they aren't annoying, but a fix can be complex.

No, if I'm one of the last two you're referring to. I'm not talking about that aspect at all. I know where to click when a thread has posts I need to read. Talking about the list of unread threads. Before we went to Huddler, things worked differently.

Tried to upload examples, but apparently now that I'm using KitKat I can't embed pictures using Chrome for Android. Switching to alternate browser..

Just to illustrate.

Here's what I see, mobile version but there's a desktop equivalent, for ALL New Content, the whole forum, as I come in.

I read the top thread, go back to the new content and get

So, it is only showing me the remaining unread threads. Not a big deal during the off season, huge as the season gets underway and forum activity explodes.

LF: I was talking about something to force going to First Post.  You are correct that clicking on a completely unread thread after selecting New Posts goes to Post #1.

There are so many ways to access threads, describing the exact sequence gets complicated.

I found the New Posts link at the bottom of the page and yes, it does take me to the beginning of a topic I haven't read.

If I use the Recent Discussion near the bottom of every page to get to topics that I haven't read and it takes me to the end of the topic whether I've read it or not.

I would like any time I click on any topic, whether I have read it or not, to go to the first unread post. If it's a new topic to me, that would be the first post. If it is one I've read, then it's the first post I have seen yet. It shouldn't matter which list I'm in, first unread post of any thread is what I want to see.

Tricia, do we have a tutorial stashed away somewhere?

For those that missed it the Epicski Discussion Forum Tutorial  Which happens to have a whole section on fascinating topics like:

Read the Forums

  1. Understand The Icons
  2. Read All New Posts or Help Beta Test The New Activity Feed!
  3. Use The "More Forums" Jump Menu
  4. Go To The First Unread Post In A Thread
  5. Mark Forums As Read

We may need to update this article to show the many new features that have been developed since it was last written, but this has most of the stuff that some members apparently don't know this site does for navigation options.

Usually, I get a notification to a thread I'm subscribed too. From there I follow the link to my computer or my phone where I remain logged in.

Aah . . . I never use the bottom of the page.

There is a New Posts choice in the drop down menu for Forums from the menu bar at the top of an EpicSki window.  Or I use the little drop down in the Forum Nav "box" next to All Forums if I'm done reading a thread.

I'm aware of all the New posts possibilities and clicking. Just looking for a shrinking list of threads with new posts. When I used to try and keep up, I'd have to page back ten pages and start moving backwards, constantly doing page refreshes to make sure something didn't skip from page nine to ten as I went to nine. I'd have to make sure I had time to get all the way back to page one, looking for things that interested me, skipping over stuff that didn't. If I didn't make it back to page one, the next day I'd have to go to page twenty, skimming stuff that had no change, trying to find where I'd left off. If we had a shrinking list, stuff I've looked at, which these days is scattered through stuff I haven't, will disappear until it gets new posts. There wouldn't be twenty pages of a mix of read and unread threads, because the read threads that didn't have new posts would not show.

Since, despite many of us saying we wanted this back, it hasn't happened, I just don't even try to keep up. I do searches on Whitefish, hoping it's not spelled wrong, never look at Where shall I ski? threads unless someone else uses the word, skip tuning topics and anything else that might interest me because I'm not going to go through 20 pages of stuff I got partially through the day before. Got tuning to do, socks to wash.

Inefficient is the right word. I'm surprised by how having two click twice to get to New Posts in a dropdown, and having read forums and posts stay in the New Posts list has changed my behavior. In a way it's good because it keeps me from spending all day and night reading whatever anyone's bothering to write. But I miss a lot of stuff.

...well, the tutorial still has the New Posts button above the forums instead of two clicks away on the right margin of the screen, which is what bugs so many of us.

Edited (of course) to add that I stay logged in; I type "ep" in Firefox's search bar, and up comes a list of the forum home page and the last few threads I've read, and choose one. I used to use New Posts almost exclusively.

First and foremost, we'll get to work on updating the tutorials.

Second, we'll see what it will entail to make the changes you're suggesting.   I still don't understand because other forums require two clicks for new posts as well, but....

Evidently two clicks is too much.

Thanks for the info TC et al.

When I'm done reading threads from my subscriptions, I start using the Recent Discussions at the bottom because I'm already near the bottom of the page, have just read the last post in a thread.

I'll try the other options that have been presented.

I don't understand the two clicks. The top 5 forums I go to are bookmarked to the unread posts link (or new posts, in this case), which is on the bookmarks bar of Chrome. It takes me one click - and it's always at the top of my browser, so I don't need to scroll anywhere.

I don't wanna be a whiner but having a video flash on when I open my home page is way more annoying than having to scroll down to my subscriptions.  Today was the first time I have seen this, I hope it is not a trend...

just sayin'

There is a discussion over here

http://www.epicski.com/t/123289/auto-play-video-ad-with-audio

As you will see if you read that thread, The Universal Player is a video by Universal Sports of Highlights of ski competitions.

When we tested it last week we did not see the advertisement that is currently playing on the video, which makes it appear that its strictly an ad.  We're trying to sort that out because the ad isn't supposed to be there.

Also, we figured some folks wouldn't want the player to run on start up, so there is an X in the upper line to the right so you can dismiss it.  After you dismiss it, you won't see it again unless we need to reset the player for some reason.

Thanks TC :)

I hope I don't inadvertently see any results before I have had a chance to view the event?

I have the forum bookmarked so I never go through the homepage, although that does sound annoying.

My rule is anything that moves or makes sound without me click it first gets blocked. Opera content blocker is great for this, synchronize across different computers too.
