Doctors: Who knows. Usually on conservative side. Most athletes push it beyond.- True, but what doctor (for the Olympics) is going to officially clear a leading ahtlete without a reasonable level of certainty. They would be crucified.
US Team: Same as Jeter nonsense. Things revolve around stars. They don't insist she not do it I would think.- Again, I don't know those politics but they were certainly invasive enough with Bode to cause him to move along without them. I can't see the team coaches turning their backs for her, allowing her to be involved in official training under their responsibility if there wasn't reasonable assurance she was fit.
Contracts are not written, "If you don't ski in Sochi...." They're written "If you win Gold..., Silver..., Bronze... you get x, y, z, etc."
Yes, I mean they're not sitting there looking at her mri's and giving advice. She's not a low level star.
The fact is she talked last year of coming back very late so she could be healthy enough to ski in the Olympics. That was the priority.
Apparently that changed somewhere along the line and she wanted to do WCup early season races.
If it was about those sponsors, well the US ones only care about the Olympics. So that would be #1 priority. No one in US gives a crap about World Cup results.
Doctor? Since there's probably no way to be definitive you can't hold them responsible unless it's completely egregious. Even if a doc got "crucified", what does that mean? If it's not malpractice, and they loose their Olympic creds, it's not that big a deal. Their practice goes on. Good Docs get sued for malpractice all the time and even loose. They go on and unless it's really, really, bad it doesn't put them out of business.
US Team: Let's say they were against it. What do they do? Say Lindsey you can't train? They could I suppose. Guess they didn't. Besides, Bode blew them off, so could she. We've heard complaints from other US Team women that everything is Lindsey, Lindsey, Lindsey. So if she really insists she's ok and wants to go, I doubt they're going to go against that.
It's not about the money, it's about competing and thinking she'll beat it and she has to beat it. primoz has it right.
