They're reporting 88" of snowfall since October.  The reports I've heard from people skinning last weekend are that the snow coverage is great and it should be excellent skiing.

If we go, I'll post a report.

Not only that:

Nice! Anything on what parts of the mountain are gonna be open? I'm curious to see that as well as what's going to be open in Alta/Bird this weekend!

No good. Stay away. It's all a marketing conspiracy.

(Rumor has it, all 2500 acres will be open.)

According to the Bridger Teton Avalanche Forecast Center, the Chief Joseph site has had 97" so far this season as of this morning:

CURRENT CONDITIONS (Mountain Weather Past 24 Hours)

At 10,400' Elevation: 5 AM Temp Max Temp Avg Wind Direction Avg. Wind Speed Max Wind Gust
Rendezvous Summit 10 º F 25 West-Northwesterly 15 40
View Temperature and Wind Graphs View Summit 48 Hr Wind Graph

Location Snowfall/Prec. Total Snow Depth Total Snowfall
At 9,300' Elevation (Raymer Plot) 3"/ 0.30 33" 84"
At 9,580' Elevation (Rendezvous Bowl Plot) 3"/ 0.30" 33" 87"
At 8,800' Elevation (Chief Joseph Plot) 4"/ 0.40" 48" 97"

Need 3 more inches in the next 24 hours.  The forecast doesn't look horribly encouraging for that, but you never know.

I think I'll probably go even if it DOESN'T hit 100.

Not my skis.

Have fun, be safe. Had enough of the cold already (0F windchill right now, -8F ambient predicted for tonight) so we're headed someplace warm for Thanksgiving.

Hill is skiing well right now. All 2500 acres are scheduled to be open Friday. Very tempted to bring out good skis, but cooler heads prevailed.

Opening with 48" at Mid-mountain and 97" YTD. Hate it when that happens.

Cheers

The shorthand version is it didn't suck.

The sky was blue, the snow was white, there were a LOT of people (for Grand Targhee, that is), and everybody agreed that the skiing was great.  It wasn't bottomless powder - more like mildly dense, settled powder but it skied very well.  Smooth, predictable, and quick.  Tremendous skiing for this early in the season.

A few photos...
