Anyone played with this or something like it?

It seems like it would be fun to have, and a good way to know where you are on a new mountain.

Edit by a Mod: moved it for you. :)  Can click on the Red Flag and ask for a thread to be moved.

Most of those goggles display info that you can get using a free app for about a 200$ mark up over their non-hud counterparts.

Yeah, I don't think we've reached the stage of projected map with real time GPS location yet, it's just your speed and vertical etc., not particularly useful to know in real time.

They are a really neat idea and I don't begrudge anyone who shells out and enjoys them. But I do agree the technology is not quite there yet for me personally to justify the cost. However, augmented-reality glasses are currently getting a big push, for example Google Glass, and its only a matter of time before the technology is good enough and ubiquitous enough to do some really cool things in our future googles- I mean goggles.
