Question for Moderator - Want to Direct my Ski Team Parents to your Marketplace

Dear EpicSki Moderator,

I am a member of the Wildcat Ski Team in the Mount Washington Valley of NH.  As a ski team, we are looking for an easy way to develop an online marketplace for our kids' used race gear.  When I went searching around for a ready-made site to link to, I found your site and love it.  Before I do a ton of work creating a user and uploading all of our posts, I wanted to check with a moderator to 1) make sure we aren't running afoul of any use guidelines by doing this and 2) to get a few specific questions answered about the best way to use your sites tools.

This is a not for profit thing for us.  We just want an easy place to direct people to to do their own swapping.

So is there a way I could have some off-line dialogue about my questions with a moderator?

Thanks,

Kim W.

Welcome to EpicSki!  I will let @Trekchick and @Philpug know about your questions.

Please check the guidelines for the gear swap section.

Hi Kim,

Thanks for taking the time to ask.

We only have a few restrictions for using the Gear Swap area of EpicSki.com.

You need 10 quality  posts and  a feedback rating of 5.  Both of these requirements are easy to achieve.

Example, I gave you a feedback thumbs up in your first post, quite frankly, because I thought it was great that you asked before posting things for sale and I like what you're doing with the kids race team.

As long as this is not a commercial endeavor, you meet the requirements I stated above and your kids parents are using the Gear Swap area to sell their kids used gear.....you all can join EpicSki and help your race families out.

I look forward to seeing you become a part of the community.  Welcome aboard!

Regardless of what happens with the gear swap thing, I like the idea of ski team parents hanging out on EpicSki and talking about topical stuff. Even ones whose names sound a bit familiar. :)

As long as the member meets the criteria as Trekchick stated and it is not for commercial use, it should led be a problem . If it helps some kids get into racing that could not afford to because of the price of new gear, great. I would be glad to help with a basic pie palate of what information should be listed for each piece. I would suggest that we limit it to just skis and not used boots .

Added to your likes to help you in this endeavor.  I coach at one of your "sister" mountains; Crotched.  You'll see there are lots parents and coaches posting here about kids racing whether about technique, gear to get or looking for a deal.  Lots on tuning too.

Welcome aboard,

Ken

Will each parent need the requisite 10 posts and 5 positive feedbacks?

To the OP, there is also another easy approach you can use in addition, particularly where for a lot of gear you are trying to basically recycle within the same group and avoid shipping.  If you use a google spreadsheet and post the link for your team members.  I do this for our Masters group and our youth/kids team has also copied the same format.

Big Sky is doing something like that, you might want to check it out.

Wow, I didn't expect replies!  Thanks to all for the great suggestions and encouragement.  Here is another question for those of you that are EpicSki savvy...I notice that you also have a Groups section of the site.  Any reason I couldn't start a Group for our ski team and then encourage members of our Group to post requests to buy/sell used gear there?  (Not meaning to skirt the # of posts and feedback requirement; just noticed that a Group could work great too.)

Any thoughts on that?  Definitely still for non-commercial/non-profit purpose of communicating with the group, with a focus on gear.

Thanks...

A group is a great idea in general  The members would still have to have the post count and feedback score to post in Gear Swap, and we would not allow you to turn your group into an exclusive gear swap.    This is because we've had issues with fraud from some folks who had no interest in the community and used our site to commit gear swap scams.  It got really ugly.
