Aspen gets killer panoramic web cams. Roundshot rules!

Check out the most amazing panoramic web cams here.

This is a first in the US for this technology at a ski resort and it promises to not disappoint.

6" on the deck in Snowmass Village and a bunch more coming.  Proving to be a nice opening weekend.

Holy crap, that is awesome.  I found this image of Highland Peak and the Maroon Bells from earlier this week just clicking around for a few seconds.   Congrats to Aspen for investing in this.  I hope other ski areas follow.

Edit: I think combining both Aspen's pano cam and a live video feed like Copper has would be ideal for the best of both worlds.  Put the pano cam up top to see the views, weather and snow conditions.  Put the live video feed at the base to see skiers, lift lines and the activity in the village.

It's fun to watch video of the skiers at the base of Copper:

But it would be way better to have Aspen's pano cam at the top.  All you can see with the video is the camera bouncing around in the wind:

Those are awesome, thanks for posting that up!

How did they get permission from Starwood for the Power of Four Roundshot?   Sunnyside is one of my favorite MTB trails of all time, just because of that view.

I just love that Highlands camera.  You get a picture of some of Colorado's best skiing (highland bowl) and best scenery (maroon bells) in one shot.  Here's a few mins ago:

Highland bowl looks amazing, and dangerous.  They are going to be bootpacking today: https://twitter.com/HighlandBowl

Looks like they have some blasting to do first.   If you leave the image open it will refresh every ten mins.  I've got this zoomed in shot of the bowl open in a window... hoping to see some bomb holes soon.  Good entertainment.

Fantastic camera. I always tell people the views from top of Aspen and Aspen Highlands are some  of the best in the country.

Guess the Aspen Highlands camera is on the Ski Patrol deck or is it further back?

Love this!  Steamboat is still working with a broken camera from over a year ago, another that is a fixed image that is often down, a lame base camera view and 2 others on the same area of the far southern side of the mountain.  Maybe someone there will see this and start to think that people are out there looking at these??  Naah, that's silly

Appears to be on the roof of the patrol shack.

Isn't Steamboat up for sale again? That might explain it.

Really they should fix the camera and have a "For Sale" image in the corner or a banner or something.

No, Fortress which owns Intrawest is issuing an IPO.

Steamboat just has a serious marketing issue.  So far behind the curve.  I e-mailed them about the camera's being down about 2 weeks ago, they are working on putting new ones up? This makes sense, you had the entire summer when there was no snow and little camera use action to repair and replace the cameras but you are going to repair and replace the cameras now the season is here and every day people are hitting the site to see if they should spend their vacation dollars there?  any bets these cameras never get fixed or replaced?  They just built a new lodge on the mountain, there are no cameras on the Northwest side of the mountain (or even at the top for that matter), you would think it would be a way to market the new lodge (New 4 Points lodge Camera) and show the side of the mountain that they have no coverage on?  Naahh...    OK, rant over.

Do you see what I see.....

I can't help but to look at the new Highlands cam every day.   Every ski area needs one of these on top of their Mountain.

So excited! My wife has a business trip in Aspen in early January, which I'm tagging along on.  While she works, I'll ski!  These cams are terrific, and really help show the lay of the land for someone who's never been there.

Nice.  I'd also suggest using that cam, as I am, as motivation to get in shape.   See those track going up the ridge.  If you want to ski that bowl, ya gotta hike that ridge that tops at 12,400ft.

Should we start a thread about "worst ski area marketing?". Maybe goad them into doing something intelligent?

Do you think it's related to legalizing weed and everyone is too busy smoking at the hot springs?

My poor lungs. I'm going to have to train just to sleep at 8000 feet.

It's not that bad. Just don't attempt the first day at altitude.

Hey you're lucky, you could practice walking up 20 stories easily.
