Hey, Vail Resorts, Christmas is coming...

And I would like for you to buy Mammoth and add it to the Epic Pass.

Oh, and please don't raise the pass price.

Thanks.

Sincerely,

Maybe this thread should be changed to "What would you do if Vail bought your resort?"

I would cry. And then move.

Sorry, I know feelings run strong on the issue of resort ownership, and didn't mean to poke a sore spot. I haven't grown up or spent a lot of time at a ski area and then watch it get acquired and change. In vibe, and perhaps other more substantial ways. I know that can be a bummer. Been through that with other things.

That said I'm really just pining away for a longer ski season. Earlier start, later close. I guess most everyone can relate to that.

OK, I get it. I wasn't really sure what you were getting at with this thread. Doesn't Mammoth stay open quite late though?

Mammoth tends to open early (eg its open now) and close late like early July.

Is Mammoth's fringe season better than Abay's? Since the OP was about adding it to the Epic pass.  Personally I think Abay's early season stuff is about as lame as it gets.

And therein lies the pipe-dreamy inspiration for having it added to the pass.  ;)

I have no clue about the business realities, but I wonder if Vail Resorts and Mammoth could cross pollinate a little to mutual benefit, perhaps give some free days at Mammoth early and late season (before/after the VR resorts are open/closed) to Epic pass holders in exchange for Mammoth pass holders getting some free days at some of the VR areas? If not free, then perhaps discounted, although free would of course be much better.  ;-)

Well now, "lame" is in the eye, (or under the ski), of the beholder.

As has been pointed out elsewhere on this board the limited early season runs provide a great opportunity to sanity check skis and boots, get the body used to skiing again, and maybe do drills and stuff like that. All of which might be of absolutely no interest to some folks, but highly desirable to others.

Myself, with the crazed crowds I wouldn't want to ski Saturdays in the early early season, but maybe Sundays, and for sure weekdays if I had the option to do so. So the exchange suggested above could certainly exclude Saturdays (and holidays) as far as I'm concerned.

Totally agree.  I meant A's WROD is lame compared to say, Copper's.

This is the only thing I miss about WROD.
