There is a boarding pass offer for an Alta/Bird combo pass for those flying into SLC for the Utah Gathering.  MUST pre-register at least a day before you leave home.  $52.50, which is 50% off the $105 day pass price for Alta/Bird.  Good for 24 hours after arrival, but M-F only.  So if you fly in on Friday or Saturday, then it won't help.

  • The date of redemption and the date on your airline boarding pass must be within 24 hours of arrival, Monday through Friday during the 2013/14 winter season. Half-price tickets will not be issued on Saturdays and Sundays.
  • Your printed Boarding Pass and ID must be presented at the resort ticket window. You must register for Boarding Pass at least 24 hours prior to your flight departure, no exceptions.

Mountain Collective Pass (MCP) still selling for $379.  Status bar in the NEARLY SOLD OUT section.  I imagine most Gathering attendees who were interested already bought an MCP.  2 days Alta/Bird included plus 50% off additional days.  Only makes sense if also likely to go to another MCP destination this season: Mammoth, Squaw/Alpine, Whistler, Aspen/Snowmass.

They just upped the quantity available but upped the price
to $399.

Northeasterner & Uncle Louie found a deal on Hotwire for lift tix if purchased by 15 Dec. The procedure should work.

This link didn't work. I just tried it myself. Here's how I found it originally.

Go to the Hotwire web site
Scroll to the bottom of the home page and click on "activities" in the left hand column
Enter Salt Lake City UT / the Gathering dates / hit search

Look for information about the Superpass

I just verified the above is indeed correct and the tickets are there for $226.50 for a 4 of 7 day pass for Alta/Bird/Solitude/Brighton

Discount tickets at the local ski shops have gone up a bit from years past (especially for Solitude and Snowbasin.) Still cheaper (and better) than Colorado. :D

For Pow Mow, this grocery store (at the four corners in Eden on the drive up) has been our go-to place for discount lift tix:

This is what to look for on Hotwire

Seems like that means need to ski in LCC/BCC for 5 days to get a daily rate of about $57/day instead of the usual $73/day.

Looks like I read it wrong . . . "includes complimentary day" so ski 4 days of 7 for $226.  Wasn't doing the math. :o

Normal SuperPass rate for 4 of 7 is $292.

Sounds like these tickets are all but gone as of Dec. 15.

Thought it would be worth mentioning in passing that I have not always been glad I bought discounted tickets substantially in advance - especially ones that lock me into a specific day, such as on Liftopia. (Note that even if your ticket is not technically for a specific day, it can end up amounting to that if you have one of those "one day at each mountain" deals, it's near the end of the week, and you have already used up all of the options except one or two.) Sometimes conditions have been such that I would have chosen somewhere else if I hadn't already bought the ticket. Also, last minute changes in other people's plans have occasionally created some tension between what I would really have preferred to do and what I had paid to do. I can imagine some part of this group, for instance, deciding to ski at area B instead of area A on a given day, notwithstanding what the published schedule might say, due to any number of legitimate factors. This is a different situation from the one at Big Sky last year, for example, where there is essentially only one choice.

Thought I would throw this in here from the "No PC Quickstart thread" regarding the boarding pass half price AltaBird pass:

So the way this would work for a M-F gathering (lodging at Alta) plan would be...

Arrive Mon- Half day Alta pass (or even the after 3 pass if I'm getting some boot issues handled at the DPH)

Tues- Boarding pass AltaBird for 52.50

Wed- Full day AltaBird

Thurs- Full day Alta

Fri- Half day Alta or head to Solitude and do half day there.

For our purposes this would give 2 days of AltaBird pass for average of 2 full day Alta pass.

Is that about right?

Have to do the math but pretty close to a wash and probably more convenient than a non-consecutive Alta pass, w Wed shuttle ride back and forth to Snowbird and Snowbird day pass for Wed. Either way that's a good plan!
