Which ski should I go with...

Hello there,

I'm trying here to compromise and find skis either for every day trips to VT and freeriding skiing in UT. I figured to go for 100mm-110mm underfoot. Have done lots of searching and came up with following models:

4FRNT Cody

Line Sir Francis Bacon

High Society FR

Icelantic Shaman

Salomon Rocker2 108

Me - 5.9, 175lbs, advanced skier, spending most of the season in Easy Coast (NY/VT) and 7-10 days freeriding West Coast (UT,WY, MO sometimes). What do u guys think about those skis above? Any recommendation?

thanks

Marcin

Interesting choices.  Not what I would choose.  I think 100-110 is too wide if you want to ski VT.  As a matter of fact, it's probably overly wide for many days out West.  As Sierra Jim has pointed out, most 110+ skis are otimized for soft snow... NOT what you will find in VT.  If I were buying this ski, I'd go 95-98: Line Prophet 98, Blizzard Bonafide,/Kabookie, Salomon Q98, etc.  I would want a ski that handles groomed and hard snow since you're going to be spending most of your time in the east AND which could be used in fresh/off-pisted conditions out west.

As a ski company head himself said: most people buy skis for what conditions they WISH they were sking... not for what they WILL ski.  If you're smart, you buy a ski for the conditions you do ski.  If you're intent on image, you buy skis for other reasons.

Totally agree with tch.

Buy something in the 90's.  Much more appropriate for the conditions you'll likely ski in Vermont.

Even on your 7-10 days out West, the odds are that you MIGHT get a 12"-plus storm just one or two days but the rest of the time you would be skiing conditions where a plus-or-minus 95mm would be perfect.  Just rent/demo a pair of skis from your above list if you're lucky enough to get that big-snow day or two.

Where do you freeride in Missouri? Does anyone there know they're now west coast? (sorry, can't stop myself sometimes)

The 4frnt Cody is a viable choice, actually a good choice, better than the rest. Salomon Rocker 108 would be second best, but the Q98 would make more sense. I'd skip the Shaman and I'm not much of a High Society fan.
