I'm visiting the in-laws for thanksgiving in western Massachussets and it looks like I'll be able to sneak away for a day or two to go skiing. Where to go?
This will probably be my first day of the season, so I'll be shaking off the cobwebs. The ideal place would be a sparsely populated area with some low-angle groomers to get my legs warmed up. Not sure which places are the best bet for that early in the season or how crowded they'll be over the holiday. Here are my options (the number is the drive time according to google maps:
I've been to the first two and am leaning towards trying something new. Plus WaWawachusetts seems like a bad bet for crowd avoidance. I've been to Mt Snow, and thought it was OK in a generic sense. Never been to any of the others. Most of these seem to be mom-and-pop operations so I wouldn't expect the aggressive snowmaking that's probably necessary to be open that early, but I don't know that for a fact. I'd expect Mt Snow and Okemo to be the farthest along in terms of snowmaking, so those are on my radar, but i don't know about the crowd situation.
Any sage advice cheerfully accepted.
