No I wouldn't. You're wrong. See how that works? It's fairly subjective. I say you're dead wrong. Who's right? Hell, I don't know, but I do know I want mesh.

Lol let's just be cool here : ) Brain's tone is a bit strong, but he has a point also. Mesh or not, your call. Indeed without mesh the airflow may be better, but with mesh there may be less chance for snow to get in~Heck I may be wrong too lol~

It is my call, which is the point of the thread. I'm self-professed crazy. Read my previous posts in this thread. I'm just looking for what I want. Not reasons why I don't need what I want.

Since Laser and I have cleared that obvious misunderstanding up.  I have a couple pair of pants with mess the vents.  Send me your money ($600 should do, $800 if you have 2 specific brands in mind)  and I'll source some without mesh, test them side by side every day all winter in every sort of condition and report back to the community.  Your money will be well spent in this public service.  Only with full field testing  can you consider your journey to be a "pant expert" fulfilled.  Remember I'll be working for you so (should it be $1000?  Health care and all. ) so it is money well spent to gain that sort of hard data.  I'll chip in the gas and season pass to get the research done.

Hell since I'm there and the gas is already paid for I'll throw in some ski pack testing (no vents) just to cover ail the bases.  :yahoo:

Ahh give the man a break...He just wants some pants with meshed vents...I'm kinda a hard fit for pants too (thick thighs, narrow waist) and I got my Goldwin for 350 after discount...I know the feeling of need something but could not find the right one~

Just felt that the sarcasm is a bit too much...?

It was the question on health care wasn't it ? :ski

Trew Gear  may make something that would be more to your liking.  I believe the vests are mesh-backed, but you should check.  They definitely have tons of pockets.

I actually mentioned them earlier. Never heard of them until recently. No mesh. Their stuff looks nice.

This is what I like about this site and you great people contributing. I too am looking for ski pants and was going to get the Patagonia Power Bowl pants, which I own a pair from a few years back. Tons of pockets, great venting, a bit baggy though. Only thing is I was going to settle on their Khaki color.  Wasn't thrilled with this, as with the other colors. NOW I saw the link to Trewgear. I am sold. Love the style and the brown looks awesome. Just wish they had rear pockets also. Will for them in stores here in NYC/LI area to try on, otherwise might just buy them outright from the website.

Have you looked into having mesh added to vents? http://specialtyoutdoors.com/  Shoot her an email and see if it's possible.

Good suggestion. Starting to become aware of all of the custom possibilities. Wish I'd been aware weeks ago.

Actually it's not subjective. Mesh blocks quite a bit of airflow. You won't notice it when skiing, when airspeeds are high, but on a calm day, when hiking or standing in the lift line, there's a pretty big difference. It's called a CFM measurement. Mesh is close to a non-membrane fleece in terms of CFM - depends on the granularity of the mesh of course. Whether or not this bothers you is certainly subjective though and I can understand wanting mesh on your vents if you use them a lot while skiing, even if I'd prefer the trade-off of greater airflow when hiking/standing around.

Sooo, I ended up going with Trew Gear after all. I was told by the Backcountry folks that the vents were meshless but, after checking with Trew directly (they seem very cool), I found out that wasn't the case. They arrived today and they look friggin awesome.

Cool Congrats. What color did you get?

Brown, thanks. I just wanted to post because I put some incorrect info out there. Backcountry has great customer service IMO, but the service folks can't always answer questions accurately because they don't have the gear in front of them.

Hopefully, I won't do this for about 4 years (bought a new Dakine jacket for this season) and maybe I'll try custom from the start, jacket and pants.

Great choice. I want the brown too. And will also get their gray Bellows jacket eventually too. Good luck and enjoy!!!!!
