The Dream Ski You Never Had - Page 2

I was answering a question posed by qbe "Those bindings must have been one of the first generation " sans bear trap". What brand were they?", Rossi, but my answer pales compared to yours.

I can't say if they were first generation or a later model though, but they did come with a 'safety strap' (see pic in an above post).

Given my childhood skiing realities, I drooled over any pair of decent skis... but... the particular ones that come to mind are Kneissl White Stars, and anything Rossignol with the rooster on the tip.  I often wish Rossi could bring back the rooster...

When did Look go to the longer arms on the toe pieces?  Before these there was a single pivoting arm on the toes.

Remember them on the generations when they were matched with a conventional turn table.

Remember when ... "equipe" was the magic word? Sort of like "freeride" is now, or was a few years ago, anyway?

First time poster... Long time member who has thoroughly enjoyed this site and learned so much from the regular users. Thanks!

A little bit about me....48 years old and have skied religiously for 43 of those years. Grew up skiing mostly Mont St Sauveur in Quebec and Jay Peak. Spent most of my early adult life as an Alpine Canada / Southern Ontario race official and TD.

I did a search of all the greatest of all time posts and was surprised I couldn't find a thread on the following questions, so I thought I'd start a quick thread get us all reminiscing!

So here goes with my two questions:

1) What were the two dream skis you drooled over as a kid and never owned?

2) What were your two favorite skis of all time you've owned?

Mine are ......

1) Dream skis I never owned:
Hexcel split tails.
Rossi ST Comps. ( The white, orange and black ones)

2) favorite skis of all time I've owned
Volkl P9 SL 205 CM
Kastle MX 88 178 CM

Hope this is a fun meander down memory lane for all!

Barry

Your dream could come true if you come to Summit County and have a BSL similar to the Langes they are set up for. '77 207s from the race room with Marker M14-5 toes and rotamat heel.

That is one of my dream skis owned. Another owned is my K2 Big Kahunas. I never dreamed about it until I skied it.

Dream skis as a kid that were unattained would include Graves and Hart Javelins (The Incredible Ski)

Here are the pieces you speak of... (I'm not sure what year the single pivot Nevada first showed up, mid 60's I think) Update, think they were released in 1963.

This is the first ski I owned. Met a Rossi rep shortly after I moved to Denver (1971) and he got them for me. Never skied before.

Big fan of the Rossignol "rooster" era

1)  Volkl G30:

It's a good thing I, in my out-of-control days, never climbed on to those things...or else I would've been bounced from every mountain.

2) Volkl P50:

Learned so much in so few hours while renting these.  Immediate Feedback compared to intermediate skis I had been on...

What are those skis with the Tyrolia bindings below your 727 pic?

I answered my own question from the retro thread Fritzmeier Duo's. Never heard of them till now!

My Dad's Head Standards and his Red-White Fischer Alu's.    I used to go down into the basement and lay them on the carpet pretending I was chasing my Dad down the hill at Snoqualime and Stevens Pass.

Never got to ski them except on the carpet......:(

I forgot about Alus. I dreamed about those. They were beautiful skis

1) DYNAMIC VR17 with the cracked edges (I owned the Rossi Strato 102).

2) Volant Spatula

This one is too easy!!!

Best skis ever owned= 1976 Dynastar Omeglass 200cm. White with red and blue graphics. I can't get there from here anymore.

Dream Skis never owned= 1974  Atomic Shocking Orange SL. I swore I'd buy a pair and never did, it's one of my few ski regrets.

I sure hope they weren't as good as I'd imagined they were.

Worst Skis ever= mid 90's Salomon Equipe SL. I gave them away almost new because I thought they were so lame.

Currently 185cm  Dynastar WC GS and 165 cm Omeglass Slantnose (the Circle of Life is complete Simba).

It's interesting that you being up the mid 90's as your worst. I think my least favorite SL skis of all time were my mid 90's 205cm Atomic ARC's. Remember the ones that were Green and Blue on the left ski and Blue/Green on the right? They...along with their sister ski the 207 GS (yellow/black) were the only two true cap skis I think I ever owned. Perhaps I disliked them so much because I came off my P9's? Nonetheless...it was a period in skis I'd rather forget.
