So i'm a newer skier this year, and i'm looking to get myself ski pants, possibly a jacket, ski socks and some sort of base layer. I was in sport authority yesterday looking around and was astounded by the variety and amount of variety. Then I got online and there were thirty brands i'd never heard of. So i'm coming here to find help with picking clothing.
What i'm looking for is a mid weight jacket, like an insulated shell, and really good pants, because Alyeska sometimes get's sloppy. All I saw in the store was The North Face, which is very popular here. Gerry, Burton, Columbia (also popular), and another one, (Spyder?) They all seemed good, but I wasn't sold on anything. I liked the Gerry the most though. Suggestions appreciated. My overall budget is +- $300 for pants jacket and base layer.
As for the base layer, i'm completely lost. Last year (my first year on the snow) I used my dad's old (circa 1990ish) Bugaboo (which worked great) and his snow pants. As for a base layer, I used regular old long johns and heavy socks. It all worked well, but i've grown out of the long johns and the pants were worn out, so I need new stuff. Again, I've got a +- $300 budget for everything.
Sorry for bugging ya'll again with my questions,
