Breck crowds on opening day?

I'm thinking of pulling our 12yo and 10yo out of school this Fri for Breck's opening day to enjoy some of the hoopla and get some early season turns in.  Has anyone been there on opening day?  How crowded is it typically?  Any speculation how many runs will be open given the recent good early season snowfall?

Well, it is unlikely that there will be that much terrain open.  Add to that the crowds that Breck usually attracts, the pull of opening day, and I wonder why you'd do it?  It's not like it is going to be epic skiing or anything.  The potential for someone (you or your kids) getting run over by some outta control idiot are much higher on opening day.

Personally, I'd wait for more terrain and better skiing.  Sure, this season has some very good skiing -- for this early in the season.  OTOH, if you want to take your kids out of school and go skiing, go to A Basin.  It'll be deserted and you will get more skiing.

+1 on A-Bay. They opened the first Green the other day and are talking like the second will open very soon. (assuming the kids are green types, don't know why I am assuming that, but there you are) Breck will announce which runs will be open tomorrow or thursday on their Facebook page. I'd look at that then make my choice.

Since this is our 1st real season in CO I thought it might be fun to be at an opening day for one of the resorts.  Maybe we'll give either A-basin or Keystone some consideration for Friday.  Thanks for the info.

I'm not sure I've ever done one, given the likely combination of crowds and the WROD. Closing days OTOH are often a lot of fun. :D
