Wife is obsessed with Volkl carvers. Being a good hubby I get her a pair but first the demo. Most of these responses are wrt to the SX 11. Its been too long since I demo'ed the 6 stars to remember what they're like

AGAIN please read other review to see my biases:

- The Volkls want to be skied fast. Really FAST. I tried Rob Butler style slow swing fall-line turns and medium radius turns but then let them go in fast GS turns. WOW - rock solid stable.

- They're decent in short and medium turnsbut like long GS turns to clarify the above

- Even more than the Atomics these are not for relaxed skiers who want to bank or skid tails imo. The skis store a hell of a lot of energy from turn to turn. Guess that's because they're stiff. I was cavorting from edge to edge being almost sprung up from the energy of the ski and have to consciously concentrate on dampening the ski's energy with legs. NOT for mellow days.

- Edge hold beyond belief. Lean them over to the point of boot-out and its still fine.

- Not bad in moguls or off-piste cut up pow but that's not what you got them for now is it?

- MISC COMMENT 1 - Now my wife went and got the 175 5 stars because our favorite shop has no more 168s and gave us a good deal. I felt fine on the 175s but I wonder if she find them too much ski? Oh well its too late as they're her skis now.

- MISC COMMENT 2 - What kind of masochist buys the 6 stars if these 5 stars are already so much ski? Perhaps 200 + pound masochists
