Soul 7 - New family member - Page 2

I'm 5'-9", 150 lbs.  I think that the 172 would be a better choice than the 180.  I like a ski that can turn well in tight tree lines with powder.  Any ideas?

I think you're on the cusp. If you want a tight tree ski, then maybe the 172. But the 180 will still be silly quick, I expect. Haven't skied it, but owned its parent.

I'm 5'9" 140 ... 180 is perfect.

I'm not sure if the soul sizing is the same as the super, but the only difference between a 172 and 180 Super 7 is more tip after the rise. It was different at 188. You might want to compare them side by side. I didn't see much benefit in the extra length for the super

i'm 5'8" 145lbs, and ski the 172.  i did quite a lot of research on sizing (http://www.epicski.com/t/117364/2014-super-7-soul-7/90#post_1638744) and am very happy with the 172's.

i also have the 2012 s7's in 178, and the soul 7's in 172 perform much better, including on fore-aft stability where you would think the length would matter more.  the difference is the rocker and longer edge contact.

i've had the soul 7 172's out on light and heavy pow, crud, and on groomers and they are definitely the right length for me.  they are hands down the best tree skiing skis i've ever owned.

there hasn't been a single run where i felt i needed more length.  in heavy pow i felt like i could use a few more mm's underfoot in width, so had to adjust my stance a bit to get more float; and in crud it would have been nice if the tips were heavier. but never more length.

i tend to make turns and ski a lot of trees, bumps, steep pitches and chutes (my on-piste ski is a 72mm 13.5m radius carver), so if you like making wide long turns and really charging the mountain you may be better off with the longer length.  but if this is the case, the soul 7 is probably not the right ski for you anyway.

I am 6 185 and ski the 7 in a 188. I would not want it any shorter. It a very quick turning ski.
