Last year I purchased the Mountain Hardware Whole Lotta Jacket hardshell, which uses their DryQ Core DWR. It's an ok shell for the price, but the outer fabric will saturate on a really wet day, so I am contemplating upgrading to a DryQ Elite jacket. The Whole Lotta is also too bulky for touring/takes up too much room in my pack. I have the Snowpocalypse pants (DryQ Elite) and they are awesome, much better than my jacket.
I'm looking at either the Snowtastic (2012/13) or the Compulsion (2013/14). Both are DryQ Elite, but the Snowtastic is marketed as a hybrid hard/soft-shell, while the Compulsion is hardshell. Both shells weigh about the same (the Compulsion is about 100g lighter) and have similar pocket/zipper set-ups and both use DryQ Elite DWR, I believe the outer fabric on the Snowtastic is not pure nylon however.
Anyone here have the Snowtastic? I'm curious how it performs in truly wet weather. Most of my skiing is at Whistler and the surrounding backcountry as well as Mt. Baker. About half my days are touring. I'm sure the Snowtastic fine for most days, but when it is snowing hard with the temperature right around freezing I am worried it might wet through.
Thanks for any advice
